So how does your favorite candidate stack up in the all important, highly controversial, utterly key Facebook competition?

Well, for most candidates, the answer would be, “The what huh?”

While goofing off at lunch today and eating my customary burrito, I thought I’d see which candidate had the most friends or likes on Facebook. Who does not put their campaign on Facebook these days?

A lot of people, it turns out.

Most candidates do not have a FB page at all, or at least don’t have one this intrepid burrito-chewing reporter could find.

But a few do:

In the race for District 4 county commissioner, incumbent Kathleen Driscoll is trouncing challenger Matt Kanenwisher, 248 likes to 122 likes. Maybe it’s the profile shot: Matt’s has a family photo along a frozen lake; Kathleen’s shows her hugging her cow dog.

And for all the other local races … well that’s about it.

The two county attorney candidates don’t have a page. Suzy Foss’ personal page shows she has 146 friends while Carlotta Grandstaff does not FB. Chris Hoffman’s personal page — which shows him in uniform — lists 280 friends while challenger Wayne Kelly — no page. Neither candidate for treasurer — Mary Hudson-Smith or JoAnne Johnson — have a page. Nor does Jim Rokosch or Jim Shreve, Regina Plettenberg (true, she’s running unopposed), either of the two running for Justice of the Peace, nor the public administrator candidate.

Those seeking seats in Helena are a bit more with it — well, kind of.

Gary MacLaren’s personal page has 184 friends while his campaign page has 20 likes. Challenger Russ Vogel is a no-show online.

For House 87, Patrick Connell has 29 friends while Tobias Martin has zilch.

For House 90, Ed Greef leads the pack with 89 personal friends and 40 likes. Wayne Stanford and Arlin Bird have yet, as they say, to “create an online presence.”

For House 88, Ron Ehli is crushing no-show Terry Moran with 165 personal friends and 168 likes.

Finally, the race for Senate 44 is not being run online, as Bob Lake has a healthy 308 friends and 79 likes, while challengers Dan Cox and Pam Erickson are no-shows.

Stay tuned to this blog for highly important updates on who has more Facebook friends.
